Mark your calendars…the annual Kincaid Fun Run is October 20th  and we’ve began the student designed Fun Run shirt contest!  We will be accepting student designs for the 2018 Fun Run t-shirt starting now and until September 21st.  The only rules are:

  • Hand drawn designs
    • Must be drawn in pencil only
    • On plain white paper

    • Kincaid Fun Run- Must be in the picture
    • October 20, 2018- Must be in the picture

If your picture wins, you will help decide what colors go on the picture.  We have already had a really good response this year.  Students are asking great questions and telling me about some outstanding ideas for their picture.  Designs can be anything; autumn, Halloween, running, etc.  Think outside the box and have fun!

Also, we will be opening registration for the Fun Run soon.  The registration form will be handed out in P.E. class.

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back everyone.   I hope your summer was full of fun experiences and wonderful memories. My name is Scott Furr and this is my 19th year at Kincaid. Kim McMasters and I are your Physical Education teachers. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting new school year.  My goal for each student is to realize fitness and movement can be fun.  I also hope that each student will find a new activity to enjoy not only in the gym, but outside of the school as well.

On your student’s P.E. days, they will be asked to participate in moderate to vigorous exercises as part of their 60 minutes a day needed for a healthy life.  When home, please encourage your student to get off the TV or game system and enjoy game play outside.  A great way to spend time as a family in the evenings are taking a walk, biking, playing four-square, playing catch, etc.

Because some students are not in the habit of moving as much and could be sore from the activities, please encourage your student to continue to participate with a positive attitude because of the benefits they are receiving from the exercise.  Please do not write your student a note to sit out of P.E. because of sore muscles.  I tell the students being sore is a good thing; it means their bodies are getting stronger.

We have one rule in P.E, Respect.  That means respect each other, respect the teacher, and respect the equipment.  I will be talking specifically how respect looks in the gym during the first week of the school year.  If a student is not doing what they should be doing during class, they will sit out of the activities. While they are sitting out, I will encourage them to think about their behavior and how they can make a better choice next time.  After a short period of time, they will be given the opportunity to rejoin their class in the activities.  If there is another incident in the same class period, they will sit out for the rest of the class time, and a note will be sent home.  I have told the students that their behavior is their responsibility.

Your students grade will be based on their participation, effort level, attitude, and behavior during class. Notes will be sent home for situations we feel are effecting your student’s learning.

Things you can do to help prepare your child for P.E. class:

1. Make sure they are dressed properly. This means comfortable clothing that will not impede movement. This also means they must wear tennis shoes.

2. Please encourage your student to give their best at whatever we are doing in P.E. class.  Some things will be harder than others and the students should strive to do their personal best; not to compare themselves to anyone else.

Mark your calendars, the Fun Run will be on October 20th! Don’t forget about the t-shirt contest.  Students will be able to submit a picture for the t-shirt used in the Fun Run.  Start thinking about the type of picture you want to draw!  More information will be coming soon about the Fun Run.

Kim and I are looking forward to a great year with your student(s).

Thanks for all your support with the Physical Education Program.

Scott Furr

Fitness Test is coming

Hey everyone!  Hopefully we are done with all the snow and we can finish the year strong.

We had a great gymnastics unit that just ended.  The students learned many skills and vocabulary of gymnastics.  We also learned about safety when doing gymnastics, so hopefully if they tried anything at home, they were being safe.

We will be starting our fitness test this week.  I always have notes from parents asking if their student can “please sit out of P.E. class”.  The reason is often time because of being “sore”.  It’s okay if the students are sore.  Actually, that’s a good thing.  Please encourage your students to drink water and stretch; that will help the soreness.

Speaking of fitness, I encourage families to exercise together.  Go for a walk in the neighborhood, take a hike up Kennesaw Mountain, go for a bike ride, take a yoga class, go to the many parks in our area and play or just throw a ball around in your back yard.  The best encouragement for the students is to see their whole family playing too.  Have Fun!!!!!!

Picture Contest for the Fun Run t-shirt

Believe it or not, the Kincaid Fun Run is right around the corner.  Along with the Fun Run is our very important t-shirt contest.

Pictures for the contest must be on plain white paper, in pencil, and no shading or coloring.

The picture must have the words “Kincaid Fun Run”, “25th Anniversary”, and October 22, 2016.  Please have your first and last name on the picture somewhere.  The pictures must be turned in by October 5th.  There will be a basket in the gym or you can turn it into your teacher.  Let your creativity come pouring out.  Lets make this 25th anniversary the best one ever!

25th Anniversary Fun Run!!!!!!!

This will be the 25th year of the Fun Run.

The first thing we need is you! Please mark your calendar and plan on celebrating with us October 22, 2016.  If you know of any former Kincaid students or families, please invite them to come join the fun on October 22nd.  Lets use the power of social media.  Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and snapchat as many people as you can to make this our biggest celebration ever.  Current students, former students and community runners are all welcome.

Here are some details on the race:

Pick up your t-shirts the morning of the race beginning at 7:15.  Races times are:

  • 8:00 – 4th and 5th grades
  • 8:20 – 2nd & 3rd grades
  • 8:40 – K & 1st grade

During the Fun Run, feel free to run with your child but please, only current students cross the finish line.   All students crossing the finish line will have their name announced and receive a 25th Annual Fun Run goody bag!  The first 12 runners crossing the finish line, in each group, for both boys and girls will also receive place ribbons.

During the Fun Run, Kincaid Rd will be closed for the safety of our students.  It will start and finish at the school.  Students will run down Kincaid Road, turn around at Addison Road and return to the school.  There will be teachers and volunteers along the route as well as the Cobb County Police Department encouraging them along.

Please know, this is a fun run.  We want our students to have fun and remember it’s not always about winning but about fitness. We hope this experience will spark excitement about exercise and encourage them to continue what could be a lifelong and healthy habit!
