HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome back to all of my students. I hope everyone had a wonderful break spending time with family and friends during the holidays! As we gear up for a new year and the second half of this school year, I look forward with great anticipation of the growth all of you will make!
Kindergarten: ESL students – great job on learning your letters. We will continue to work on learning all of the sounds the letters make as well as vocabulary acquisition. This month, we will be including more drawing/labeling and writing sentences.
Kindergarten: Math students – great job on learning how to count to 100. We will continue to practice this skill as well as counting by 10’s to 100 and 5’s to 100. I look forward to seeing you solve word problems within 5 using fun objects such as marshmallows, markers, cereal and your own drawings.
1st grade: We will continue to work on learning all of those sight words, reading comprehension skills and writing creative stories.
2nd grade: I have enjoyed your retelling of the holiday books you’ve read and the great teachers you were in asking questions about the stories. I look forward to more growth in reading, writing and vocabulary acquisition as we read stories about Polar Animals as well as our weekly Time for Kids. Keep reading for Readers Rule the World!
3rd grade: Wow! What great reading and writing that has taken place! I look forward to more growth in these areas as we read stories about historical events and scientific ideas. We will also begin working on opinion writing. I can’t wait to read all about your opinion on various topics and hearing the reasons behind your belief. Happy Writing!!
4th grade/5th grade: ESL students – Great job on your stories about the variety of Christmas trees. You did a wonderful job researching your type of tree and writing an interesting story explaining the characteristics of your tree.
We will begin the year writing about our opinion on a variety of topics and stories. I can’t wait to read all about your opinion on various topics and hearing the reasons behind your belief. Happy Writing!!
