Block 1- and 7: (8th)

Monday- cause/effect practice; computers, reading nook rotation

Tuesday- finish power points, computers, reading nook rotation

Wed- practice power point, computers, reading nook rotation!

ALL reading nook book tests are due OCTOBER 7th! Have you taken your test?

Thursday/Friday- Alien Invaders Presentation!

BEGINNING after fall break, EACH student will have homework from the workshop assigned TWICE per week.  The reading assignment  must be completed on time and will not be accepted late. I will post a calendar of the assignments after break.  Please check the blog for due dates.

Block 2- (6th grade)

MONDAY– RESEARCH FOR IMMIGRANT IS HOMEWORK IF NOT FINISHED AT END of class TODAY

Type your report in word- PRESENTATIONS BEGIN THURSDAY!

Tuesday– print typed copy and beginning editing your report

hw- bring a prop or dress to reflect your famous immigrant!

Wednesday– FINISH FINAL report copy/ rehearse presentation

hw- make index cards of what you will say during presentation; hw- bring a prop or dress to reflect your famous immigrant!

THURSDAY/FRIDAY- Immigrant presentations! Have your prop or costume with you!

Tuesday- Discussion on NY Times article- share your groups thoughts; Jigsaw activity with group on an article

Thursday” ” Place at the Table”- note-taking for research

hw- read and take 5 notes on 2 Hunger articles from class.  Due tomorrow!

Block 1,7 (8th grade)

Monday- Media Center:  Continue research for Alien Invader project

Tuesday- Word Challenge p.188; SG page 189

Wednesday- Media Center- Continue Alien Invader Project; start to prepare power pint for upcoming presentation! hw- anyone who has not finished the research needs to complete research for homework tonight!

Thursday- Reading nook/test; graphic organizers , power point

Friday- Reading nook/test; graphic organizers, power point.  Power  points will be presented next week.

 

Block 2 (6th grade)

Monday: Media center: Continue research for Famous Immigrant Project

Tuesday- Video on Ellis Island; note-taking sheet

Wednesday- Media center: Continue research for Famous Immigrant Project; be sure you including details to your research (not one word answers , expand your knowledge of the person’s life you are researching) USE A SECOND SOURCE (further readings, more information..)

Thursday- Computer lab:  Finish Ellis Island tour; continue famous immigrant research

Friday- Finish research using two sources.  Type in word a report on your famous immigrant.

 

Block 6 (7th grade)

Monday- End of Workshop Assessments!

Tuesday- Finish test (if necessary) computer rotation; reading nook

Wednesday- computer; reading nook rotaations

Thursday- No 6th block testing due to schedule changes for Iowa and CoGat testing

UPDATE: Block 2

Students were given a New American’s Reading Review sheet  today to go through for next week’s test.  This assignment will not be collected, it is being given to you to look over the workshop pages and re-familiarize yourself with the types of questions for the test on Wed.  I encourage you to go through the review nightly for the 3 different readings we have done in whole and small group rotations. The test will be open book, so you don’t need to memorize each article.

Ask yourself what is the main idea and details of Fitting In?  What does Freddy choose school before soccer? How had immigration trends changed over time?  ETC….
