Next week, we are beginning our “All About Me” unit with the books I Like Myself! and I ain’t Gonna Paint No More! both by Karen Beaumont. We will emphasize such concepts as dressing, eating, grooming, going to school, being independent, body parts, etc. through a variety of language-rich, multisensory activities. We will continue to focus on the color yellow and the shape circle. We will introduce the letters “m” and “f.”

This week we started our unit based on community helpers with the story Mat Man Hats by Jan Z. Olsen. This rhyming story has the familiar character Mat Man wearing many different career hats.
We will introduce the letters “D” and “M.” We will introduce the color pink and the shape heart.
Monday, February 18th – Friday, February 22nd
Welcome back! I hope that you had a nice holiday break with friends and family.
This week we begin our winter unit based on the book Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright. This is an engaging story that will give the children many wonderful opportunities to predict, sequence and “read” repetitive words as they appear throughout the text!
We will spend two weeks reviewing the letters “J,” “P,” “A,” “T,” “H,” “G” and “X.”
We will focus on the shape diamond and the color white.
Our next unit is based on the story The Little Old Lady who Swallowed a Bell is rhyming text with funny illustrations much like The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie, but this time, the hungry old lady swallows a bell, bows, gifts, a sack, a sleigh, and some reindeer! Both stories are a fun way to introduce students to seasonal vocabulary and holiday traditions. This month we will focus on the color green, the shape star, and the letter “h.”
We are continuing the story Ten Red Apples by Pat Hutchins. This rhyming story with vivid illustrations tells a tale of a farmer who watches his farm animals one by one take a shiny red apple from his apple tree. Students will love the rhyming, counting, repetition, and animal sounds in the story.
This week we introduced the letter “Aa, and continue to focus on the color red and the shape rectangle.
November 19-23 No School
Next week, we will be reading Go Away Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley. The children will enjoy getting to know the “colorful” monster from the story as they turn the die-cut pages to watch him grow and then disappear. We will focus on our emotions and feelings. We will learn how to identify our own emotions, and those of others, things that make us feel a certain way, how to communicate our feelings, and how to manage our emotions appropriately.
We will introduce the letter “P.” We will continue to focus on the shape triangle and color orange.

We are continuing our unit about weather based on the story Boom! Boom! Boom! by Jamie A. Swenson. This is a fun rhyming story about a little boy who is in his bed during a storm when all his scared animal friends try to fit in bed with him.
We will introduce the letter “I.” Our shape is a square and the color is brown.
Early Release- Thursday October 11th
Monday we began our zoo unit based on the book Wild About Us! By Karen Beaumont. This is an engaging story that will give the children many wonderful opportunities to predict, sequence and “read” repetitive words as they appear throughout the text! This book focuses on many zoo/wild animals, their sounds, physical traits and actions. We will focus on the color brown and the shape square. We will review the letters “e,” “b” and “s.”
