Hello parents and students,
It was my plan to have sectionals on the Honor Orchestra excerpts this week but snow and doctors appointments have put that on hold. In the meantime, I have uploaded Honor Orchestra forms and music in the “Honor Orchestra” tab. The audition is January 20th. I HIGHLY recommend students look at this and consider auditioning. Signed forms can be turned in to the yellow box at the front of the room even if a substitute is there.
Tapp always has students pass this competitive audition and I hope to send even more in 2018. Good luck and happy practicing!! I will not be there on Tuesday but will hopefully be clear to come back to work on Wednesday!

*CHAMBER MUSIC–This week, the 7th and 8th graders will be learning numerous short works in small chamber ensembles and will perform them for each other in class. Several students have volunteered to perform at the Women of Tomorrow’s Mother Daughter Tea Party held at Tapp this Saturday from 2-4pm (more information on this event to come). This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn the basics of performing without a conductor in small groups.

*7th and 8th Grade Spring Concert–Thursday, May 18th 7:00pm

It has been an honor and pleasure to teach Orchestra here at Tapp! To ensure the success of our Fall Concert, here are a few reminders:
*7th and 8th Grade Fall Concert – Thursday, November 3rd 7:00pm in the Tapp Auditorium. Now is the time to work out foreseeable conflicts with other school activities, transportation, etc. I would love to see as many 6th grade students and parents there so they can see what is in store for them in the future!
*Concert Attire – Orchestra Polo/Black Polo, Khaki pants, black socks, dress black shoes (no tennis shoes, closed toed flats are acceptable)
*Practice records are due weekly (bi-weekly for cello/bass students) for 7th and 8th-grade students. I will not accept the record unless it is signed by a parent. The orchestra room is open for students to practice before and after school. Students know what they should be working on and taking their instruments home over the weekend to work out the tricky spots in the repertoire.
*Be sure your child keeps the nails on their left hand very short. Otherwise, playing in tune and with vibrato (for 8th grade) is almost impossible.
*We will be using Remind 101 – I have sent a worksheet home with every student. Please text in so you can get reminders instantly 🙂
