Reminders

Please join us for our annual Family STEM Night this January 23rd from 6:00-7:30! Cheer your child on as they make paperclips fly, build roller coasters, play with robots, and much more!

Mark your calendars and bring your whole family for this fun-filled STEM Night!

**Please note: this is not a drop-off event. And unlike previous years, pizza will not be sold.**

On Friday, January 26th, I am requesting that the students dress up like they are 100 years old for our 100th day of school! Due to scheduling conflicts, we will be celebrating in class in lieu of a parade.

We are going to do many fun Math and Writing enrichment activities related to the way we are dressed and to the number “100”. There is no need to buy new items. Allow your child to get creative with what you already have at home!

I appreciate your help with putting together an outfit for them. I can’t wait to see all my little old men and women!

Spirit Night at Tijuana Joe’s

Tonight is PTA Spirit Night at Tijuana Joe’s.

Homework and Progress Reports

Hello Parents! I am sending weekly progress reports home today instead of Monday. The reason for this is that we are going to be taking tests on Word Problems in Math and Making Connections in Reading at the beginning of the week. I wanted to give you the opportunity to look over your child’s Formatives (practice tests) over the weekend if you felt like they needed extra practice.

Also, YOU (parents) have homework next week! I am sending home a snowflake activity for you to complete. All of the directions will be included with the activity, but the gist is that you get to brag on your child in a crafty way! This homework will be due on Friday, December 8th, so I wanted to send it home today in case you wanted to work on it over the weekend. Feel free to include your child when decorating your snowflake! They love this activity. Thank you!

Announcements

East Side Elementary is proud to support the Kiwanis Circle K Club of Kennesaw State University and Georgia Highlands Paulding Campus to promote the America Reads program this year.  America Reads Initiative is a federal program that allows KSU and GHC work study students to tutor elementary and middle school students in Paulding and surrounding counties who are in need.  Please consider donating a gently used or new book, but please don’t put your child’s name in it.  A note of encouragement about the joys of reading that is slipped between the pages of a book is most welcome.  The book drive will run until November 30th.  Boxes are placed by the cafeteria and gym doors.

Also, our lunch time on Friday is changing due to the 5th grade Ellis Island program. Our lunch time on Friday will be from 12:03-12:33.

Colder Weather

Please make sure you send your child to school with warm clothes and a coat now that the weather is getting colder.

Also, if your child has lost any items, please have them check in the Lost and Found room before they come to class this morning.

Last reminder, if you have signed up to send in items for the Fall Centers party tomorrow, please try to get that to me today or email me if you will be sending it in tomorrow. Thanks!

Creek and Cherokee

We had so much fun at our In House Field Trip yesterday! Thanks again to all the parents that volunteered. We couldn’t have done it without you!

I am sending home a Creek and Cherokee study guide today in your child’s take home folder. For the test (next week), the students will need to be able to compare and contrast the life of Creek and Cherokee to our life today. Please review at home over the next few nights. Thanks!

In House Field Trip

Our In House Field Trip will be held outside today. Please make sure your child has a coat with them! If you are volunteering you might want to bring one too! 🙂

IXL

IXL is back up and running for 2nd – 5th grade!

East Side has its own IXL page. You can get to it using the IXL graphic in our quick links menu of our school webpage.  The username is the student number and the password is 3850 for all students.

If you are using the app, you must use the student number followed by @eses, then the password.

Class T-Shirts

Class T-shirts have arrived just in time for our Creek In House Field Trip tomorrow. Because of Red Ribbon Week, some students would prefer to wear a sports team jersey, which is also fine! Be sure to get the t-shirts out of your child’s back pack and put them somewhere safe because it will be important to wear for field trips!

Some students are bringing home a Creek In House field trip permission form slip. They cannot participate tomorrow without your permission, so please be sure to sign and return this slip tomorrow (if it is in their folder). Thanks!

Red Ribbon Week

I had so much fun seeing everyone at the Fall Festival! I cannot wait to hear who won the Teacher Auction!!

**Class T-shirts-  There was a delay in our class t-shirt orders. They will not be available for our Creek In-House Field Trip on Wednesday. We apologize for the delay, but thank you for your patience.

Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-27)

Monday:  School Spirit- wear your favorite school shirt or colors.

Tuesday:  Peace out to bullies- wear peace signs or tye-dye clothes.

Wednesday: Team up against bullying- wear your favorite team shirt.

Thursday: Use your head and make good choices. – crazy hair or wear a crazy hat.

Friday: Promote good character – dress up as your favorite superhero.

Fall Festival/ Teacher Auction

I hope to see everyone at the Fall Festival tonight from 5:00 – 9:00 PM! Make sure you look for my family and I!

The Teacher Auction closes at 8:30 PM tonight. So make sure you get your bids in by then. We are all too excited to see who will be spending quality time with Ms. Taylor!

Fall Festival/ Teacher Auction

Parents, I am SO excited about the Fall Festival coming up! It is my all time favorite event at East Side! I love to bring my twin sister, parents, and even my dog, Maybree (dressed up in her Halloween costume)! I hope to see everyone there this Friday…we might even get to ride some rides together! 🙂

Also, the Teacher Auction is open this week and ends on Friday. This year I am offering two auction prizes! For one prize, we will be making a sailor themed craft together and then going to Chili’s to get dessert! YUM! I am also offering a Chick-fil-A breakfast together before school!

This auction helps raise money for East Side so that teachers can participate in training’s, we can have grade level iPads, to help fund STEM, etc. Last year my class was one of the top 5 for raising the most money for the school. It was a very proud moment for us! I can’t wait to see who wins the bid and which Sailors I get to spend my personal time with!!! 🙂

Here  is the link to start bidding! I am auction #11 and #12!

Teacher Auction

Our class will be checking every morning to see if the bid is going up, so start bidding today!

Donations for Brumby

We are so fortunate here at East Side to have such support for our STEM projects. We want the students at Brumby Elementary to experience STEM without limitations. Each grade level has been designated a list of items that we are hoping to collect and donate to Brumby. If you’d like to donate some items, please send them in by October 20th. Thank you!! 🙂

  • Large Marshmallows
  • Plastic Bottle Caps
  • Life Saver Candies

Early Release/ Lunch Time

Hello Parents! Just a reminder that today is early release. Dismissal will begin at 12:25 and lunch will be from 11:16 – 11:45. This will be the same schedule we use for conference week!

IXL and Raz Kids

East Side’s IXL and Raz Kids account have expired but we are in the process of getting them renewed. Hopefully the websites will be up and running in the next few days!

In the meantime, I would suggest picking a nonfiction book and starting the pumpkin book report projects (one of my favorites of the year)! Please do not lose this orange sheet because it will need to be turned in with their pumpkin. I’d recommend choosing a fake pumpkin if at all possible because it is sad when the pumpkins rot and we have to throw them out after a couple of days.

It would also be a good idea to spend some time reviewing money word problems because this test will be at the end of this week. 🙂

Parent Conferences

All parents should have received an email and now have access to the Signup sheet for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please send me an email if you did not receive the email so I can get the link to you ASAP. If you have not signed up by Friday and I have not heard from you, you be will assigned a conference time. Thank you!

Parent Conferences

If you are a parent that has multiple children at East Side, today is your last day to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences before I will open up the schedule to all parents in our class tomorrow. You will have until Friday to sign up for your conference…otherwise a time will be scheduled for you. Please email me if you have siblings at East Side and did not receive the email with the sign up link. Thank you!

Dismissal Changes

Parents, it is very important that I have a handwritten note if your child is going home a different way than usual. I cannot send students on the bus without a handwritten note (unless that is their typical way of going home). Please keep this in mind when we return from the break. Thank you!
