Reading Bowl

Calling all 3rd and 4th graders who will be 4th and 5th graders August 2020!  Join the Teasley Reading Bowl Team! Watch the video below and read the information. Email if you have questions.

The Teasley Reading Bowl Team is a competitive reading team of 4th and 5th graders. Members read from a specific list of books and answer comprehension-style questions for competition. Students must be on or above their grade level in reading to be considered for the team. Students will be expected to write questions for the books. These questions will be used during practices to prepare for the competition. The county competition is held in January on the Saturday before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. If you know in advance that you will be out of town or traveling that weekend, I ask that you do not try out for the team.

Students will be provided with templates to use for questions. Each template must be completed (20 questions per book) and returned to Ms. Crosby.

DO NOT write “yes/no” or “true/false” questions. Make sure that the subject of your question is an important detail from the book.

The team will begin with many students, but only ten may compete during the county competition. Students will be selected for the competitive team by Thanksgiving break. The selection process follows a point system. For each question answered correctly during practice, the student will receive a point. The top ten point scorers will be chosen for the competitive team. Those students on the competitive team will continue to practice on Mondays after school through December and January until the competition.

The titles for the 2021 competition are listed below. All are available in SORA. Good luck!
