World History: August 3rd – 7th 2015

Dear students,

Welcome back to school and welcome to World History!!!  Here on the blog you will find a list of activities we will do in class each day, project and test due dates, as well as reading and daily work assignments to help you keep up with class in case you are out sick or in ISS/OSS.  I want you to know that World History is a fun but challenging subject.  If you find yourself struggling in the course and need help I am available after school for review sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  See you tomorrow! :)

1.  We will discuss the course outline and class syllabus.

2.  We will look at why World History is important and how you are helping to make it right now!

3.  We will examine the differences between Prehistory and History.

ISS/OSS/Sick Work:  Write a one page essay describing what you know about the history of the world from earliest times to the present day.

Homework:  Give the course outline and class syllabus to your parents and have them detach and sign the back page.

1.  We will discuss the characteristics that make a group of people a separate and distinct civilization.

2.  We will look at what the earliest civilizations had in common with each other by examining their individual features.

3.  If time remains we will examine the worlds first written legal code by completing the Hammurabi’s Code Activity.

ISS/OSS/Sick Work:  Use your computer and look up Hammurabi’s Code.  List 10 things you learned about the values and beliefs of Sumerian and Babylonian society from reading this legal code.

2.  We will examine the major World Religions and Philosophies which have developed throughout history.

3.  Zoroastrianism Video

Homework:  Study the World Religions Packet for the quiz to be given on Friday August 7th.

ISS/OSS/Sick Work:  Using your textbook or an encyclopedia please read about the following religions and philosophies: Judiasm, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Daoism.  Then create a chart with one religion in each column that lists the following things: name of religion/philosophy, name of god, 4 or five basic beliefs, and who the chief prophet or follower of the religion was.

Thursday:

1.  We will assign the Early Civilizations Think-Tac-Toe mini project.  We will work on this project today in class and what you don’t finish will be homework.  The project is due on Monday August 10th.

ISS/OSS/Sick Work:   If this is your first day that you have been out please complete one of ISS/OSS/Sick Work assignments from the previous three days.  You do not have an assignment for to day if you have already completed the previous three days assignments.
