Summertime Homerhouse Happenings (photo journal extension activity)

We kicked off the summer celebrations with Jared’s graduation from Kell High School.

I found my coloring fort!

Book Club reading at the lake with Wallace.

Coloring pages make me happy.

Memorial Day weekend was full of shopping, hiking and fun in the North Georgia Mountains.

I found a new friend for our class when we were shopping!

The Foxfire Museum in North Georgia.

At the museum we saw an actual wagon used on the Trail of Tears.

Information on the Zuraw Wagon, history can be pretty cool.

You know what else is cool? Ice cream! 🙂

Time for some ice cream at Goats on the Roof!

Annual waterfall picture with the kids…

…and with Gran & Grandfather.

More coloring time during the break after my chores were done.

Pinkie helped design the tee shirt for our beach house.

Jared & Mr. Rob went on a tour of roller coasters for Jared’s senior trip. They planned out a road trip through Virginia and Ohio and were gone for 8 days riding roller coasters. My tummy would not be able to handle 1 day on a coaster!

Sandusky, Ohio is where Cedar Point Theme Park is located. They have LOTS of fun scary roller coaster rides. During the week they rode so many different types of coasters; giga, strata, hyper, wing, wooden and bobsled just to name a few.

Pinkie went on a week long mission trip with our church to Savannah, Georgia.

Hey, look! I found another new friend for our class when I was shopping.

Baby sitting sweet Rocket while Jared was on his trip.

Kevin adopted 2 bearded dragons this summer.

Meet Blackbeard, he smiles a lot.

Blackbeard & Saphira are happy in their new home.

Grumpy Cat & the fish had a habitat upgrade this summer.

Aubie likes to watch the new dragons eat their breakfast.

Kevin passed his driver’s test this summer.

Great job Kevin!

Jared & Mr. Rob are on their trip. Pinkie is on her trip. Kevin and I had a great time finding fun things to do while it was just us. We decided to venture to Atlantic Station to see the Bodies exhibit. Since Kevin wants to be a doctor this was a fun filed trip.

Chess anyone?

We stopped for lunch at Which Wich.

They  have really yummy sandwiches!

Next stop, IKEA for a surprise in the new reading lab.

Kevin and I had fun making the figures dance. 🙂

We played trivia at Gustons one night.

Kevin and I did doodle drawings in between the questions.

Our team was tied for 1st at the end of the night.

The other team won the tie breaker question but we still had lots of fun!

Wallace helped me clean out the garage.

Pinkie and I went to the airport to pick up a very special person.

Uncle Ricky’s fiancé was coming to stay for 2 weeks from Vietnam. 🙂

Unfortunately, he couldn’t pick her up in Atlanta because he was having surgery.

We all went to the hospital to visit with him and he was so excited to see her. So were we!

Waiting rooms are a great place to read books and color.

My books that I read this summer are on the Book Club page-don’t forget to do the challenge!

After the surgery we took Loan to the mountains for a field trip….and ice cream.

Time for vacation!

The Homerhouse spends a couple weeks in SW Florida each year. This is our 37th year doing so and as a result we have grown up with the other families that have also been coming in July.

It is my happy place.

Even more fun was had on the way to the beach. We got to stay in a hotel which I don’t get to do very often. Actually, I am the only one that doesn’t really get to stay in a hotel much. Gran, Grandfather, Uncle Ricky & Mr. Rob travel a bunch for work. The Homerhouse kiddos travel all over the US for robotics. hmmm, interesting. 🙂 The picture I posted is a side by side with the automatic pancake machine-Pinkie 4 years ago and Pinkie this summer.

Lots of storms on the morning of July 4th, I hope it doesn’t rain.

We have lots of fun things to do today.

We were still able to get to the parade down the island. In fact, it was really hot!

Still no storms. The Homerhouse boys competed in the condo hot dog eating contest and won! They got a really silly trophy.

The group photo from the 4th of July.

This is my beach family from when I started coming to the beach house at 4 years old.

Of course my dino came on vacation with me. 🙂

Trexie even made a friend at the beach!

The 4th of July was a great day, no rain and lots of fun.

We even had an immaculate sunset before the fireworks.

We set off on another adventure. This place is called the Bubble Room and it is full of crazy fun decorations. Jared looks super excited, hehehe.

Kevin loves coming here because they have an amazing coconut cake dessert.

Before we went home we drove through the JN Ding Darling wildlife habitat. We saw so many amazing birds, animals, critters and even an alligator! Can you find him? It has been years since we have seen one at Ding Darling’s.

A new week, a new coloring page.

Even though I am scared of birds, I like how this one turned out.

More reading in the morning for the summer reading book club.

Are you finding a good spot to read?

Reading during the afternoon storms settle in is fun too. Or maybe a nap… 😉

Mr. Rob was excited to come down to the beach and was getting the house ready. He called and said that Blackbeard and Saphira had a clutch of eggs! We will see if they have little baby dragons in a few weeks. Kevin is  very excited!

Time to get some fresh air. Pinkie and I walked down to the pier for an ice cream cone.

The rest of the Krewe was right behind us.

I was thinking about all my little ducks while we were at the beach.

Sllama even came out for a visit. 😉

Sunset picture after we got our frozen treat. Lots of people come out in the evening to walk the pier and take pictures of the sky. My favorite color, in case you didn’t know, is sunset. That beautiful pinky~peachy~orangy~red that you see in the sky. 🙂

Loan gave me a new coloring book (with birds in it) so I did a second page in my new book. 🙂

I’m so happy that Uncle Ricky is feeling better after his surgery! See how he is up to his normal silly behavior? Grandfather got in on the fun too.

After a walk on the beach we played Farkel.

We will be having Farkel Fridays this year in math! 🙂

We went to the store and I had a friend sitting on the sunroof peeking in to say hello.

Walking on the beach I found a pin cushion urchin, a sun-ray venus and a beautiful harlequin crab.

This photo is a bit blurry because it was SO humid outside. In between storms we ventured out to get a bite to eat at one of our favorite restaurants. I love this place because they give you an order form and you build your own burger. It’s so delicious! We are missing Grandfather because he was back in Atlanta working, he will be back soon.

After dinner we walked to the pier to watch the sun set. Lots of people like to stand on the pier to get photos. You can fish off of the pier but I have never caught anything worth keeping. I like fishing on the boat better.

Time to walk back to the beach house. The sunset was lovely, as usual. I don’t think you can ever have a “bad” sunset when you are at the beach. Sometimes the sunsets at home are really beautiful and it reminds me of the beach. I loved this picture because the American Flag at the Veteran’s park looked really pretty.

This is one of the BEST photos I have ever taken. Let me know if you see why it is so amazing….I had to be very patient to capture this picture.

Morning storms were rolling in so I couldn’t go to the pool. Not to worry, I can read my book anywhere. 🙂 Are you reading for the Book Club?? 😀

I took a break from reading to color another page. Pinkie said the paisley looked like a pepper so I colored it like a pepper. 🙂

I always love the silhouette of the palm trees against the sunset.

Kevin said he wanted to try coconut milk so Uncle Ricky cut one open for him.

I was fascinated with the sunset sky going from white/ light blue all the way to deep blue/purple.

Uncle Ricky is feeling much better after his surgery. I am so happy that we can take our annual Mr. & Sister photo on the point.

Thinking about my Duckies while I wait for the sunset to color the skies. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone soon!!

This is Mrs. Homer’s happy place.

I only have two more sunsets before it is time to drive home.

So calm and peaceful, this is one of my favorite sunsets. All my favorite colors and a pretty sailboat in the background. I wish the dolphin were playing closer so I could get them in the picture too.
