I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!  The next 4 weeks will be so busy with learning and fun activities at both school and home, too!   Please know that we are finishing our 1st half of the school year before the Holiday Break and we have LOTS of LEARNING TO DO! 

 200 WORD SIGHT LIST—-AS WE APPROACH THE END OF THE 1ST HALF OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR CHILD LEARN THE WORDS ON THE 200 WORD SIGHT WORD LIST THAT WAS SENT HOME THE 1ST WEEK OF SCHOOL.—BY NOW, YOUR CHILD SHOULD KNOW BETWEEN 100 AND 125 WORDS.  I HAVE BEEN ASSESING EACH CHILD AND MANY STUDENTS KNOW WAY BELOW 100 WORDS!  PLEASE LOCATE THAT SHEET AND GET TO WORK ON LEARNING THOSE WORDS.—I WILL BE SENDING REMINDERS HOME THIS WEEK FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO KNOW LESS THAN 100 WORDS.

October 1-5, 2018 Happy Fall, Ya’ll!

Welcome Back and Happy Fall everyone!   I hope that everyone had a restful and fun Break! 

CONFERENCE WEEK—OCT. 15-19.—-We are nearing the end of our 1st Quarter and will be sending home conference times for your child later this week.  Please look at your conference times and sign and return the form so I can reserve that time for you.—If you have more than 1 child at Pitner, I have tried to schedule your child’s conference at at a time that is back-to-back with your other child.—Please be on time for you conference as each conference will last only 20 min. and I will be sharing your child’s progress so far this year, as well as given you your child’s 1st Report Card.  

 UPCOMING EVENTS: 

Friday, Oct. 5——Our“FRIDAY CLUB” FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER IS THIS FRIDAY.—STUDENTS WHO READ 12 OR MORE BOOKS IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER WILL BE PARTICIPATING AND WILL ENJOY LUNCH IN OUR CLASSROOM, A FUN CHILD-FRIENDLY MOVIE, AND A GREAT TREAT TO TOP IT OFF.—Students were given the new October Reading Log today, so please get started with your Reading Log for October.—Remember 12 books read to attend the October Friday Club. 

 PLUS—-2 MORE READING INCENTIVES FOR YOUR CHILD!— WOW!  Now there are 2 more Reading Incentives that our class will participate in starting today. Parents and Students don’t have to do anything new!–Just read 12 books and also earn:  

      1. Book-It  Pizza Hut Coupon—Student reads 12 or more books and your child earns a coupon for a “free” personal pan pizza @ Pizza Hut.  

      2. 1st Grade Team Reading Incentive:   New to Pitner will be “Pitner Bucks” & the School Store.—Students can earn Pitner   Bucks by reading and can use “bucks”  to               buy small toys, school items, etc. @ the school store.

 Saturday, October 6: 11 a.m.–3 p.m.-Pitner Fall Fest & 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off.-See you  there!

Week of September 17-21, 2018 One More Week Before our Fall Break!—NO SCHOOL ALL NEXT WEEK!

Wow!!!  I can’t believe that we have almost reached Fall Break!  We have been working so hard that the days and weeks are just flying by!  I hope everyone has a safe, restful, and fun Fall Break.   Don’t forget to keep your Reading Skills sharp by reading 3 or more books over the break!—-September Reading Logs are due when we return on Monday, October 1st, so make sure your Reading Log is completed!

Here’s some news and reminders for this week and dates to remember for when we return October 1st.  I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, October 1st!

Week of September 10-14, 2018 Testing is over for 1st Grade!!! So proud of how hard every student is working!

CogAT Testing is over for 1st Grade, so it is back to our regular schedule.  Here’s some news and reminders to help your child’s school week run smoothly this week!

Monthly Reading Logs:  We had a GREAT time at our 1st Friday Reading Club last Friday!—8 of our 14 friends were able to participate because they read 12 or more books in the month of August!—ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN  NOW HAVE A NEW SEPTEMBER READING LOG IN THEIR FOLDER.—PLEASE READ:  “to your child”,  “with your child”, or have your child “read to you” if possible .—-PARENTS MUST READ WITH OR “HEAR” THEIR CHILD READ SO THAT THEY CAN HELP THEM WITH THE DIFFICULT WORDS  AND CORRECT THEM IF THEY MAKE READING MISTAKES.—READING AT HOME IS A VALUABLE WAY TO PRACTICE AND CAN HELP YOUR CHLD WITH THEIR “FLUENCY” –ease of reading AND CONFIDENCE.     

 

THE NEXT FRIDAY CLUB FOR SEPTEMBER WILL BE WHEN WE RETURN FROM FALL BREAK.—THAT WILL BE FRIDAY,  OCTOBER 5, 2018.  This should give every student enough time to complete their September Reading Log and read 12 or more books.

 CogAT (Cogitive Abilities Test) —Your children did a remarkable job of staying focused and giving their best efforts during our CogAT tests on Wed., Thurs., and Friday.—So many thanks for getting your children to school on time for the test, making sure they were rested, and make sure they had eaten breakfast for their “brain food”.—WE ARE ALL DONE WITH OUR TESTS NOW!

Week of Sept. 3-7, 2018 A Short Week This Week and Lots of Learning to Do!

I hope everyone had a restful and fun Labor Day Holiday!  Here is some information and reminders of what’s going on in our classroom and at Pitner for this week and the month ahead!

Monthly Reading Logs:   Our 1st “Friday’ Club”  will be this Friday, September 7.  Congratulations to the 7 students who will be participating because they completed their August Reading Log!—-Students who complete their September Reading log by October 1 will be attending the next Friday Club at the end of September. 

 FYI:  THE “FRIDAY CLUB”  IS A CELEBRATION OF ALL STUDENTS WHO t COMPLETED THEIR MONTHLY READING LOGS.—STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY,  JOIN ME IN MY CLASSROM FOR LUNCH ON THE SELECTED FRIDAY AND GET TO DINE WITH THEIR FRIENDS AT ONE OF OUR CLASSROOM TABLES!    THERE IS ALWAYS A “SPECIAL TREAT”  FROM ME FOR THOSE WHO GET TO ATTEND!  

 Grandparent’s Day: Pitner will be celebrating our student’s Grandparents with an “ICE CREAM SOCIAL” on this  Thursday, Sept. 6 & Friday, Sept. 7 AT 1:00 p.m.—1ST GRADE WILL CELEBRATE GRANDPARENTS DAY ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7!—-Don’t’ forget to join the 1st grade grandparents if you sent in a purple reservation form.—The deadline was last Friday.—-SORRY, BUT ONLY GRANDPARENTS WITH ADVANCE RESERVATIONS MAY JOIN US ON FRIDAY. 

 The CogAT (Cogitive Abilities Test) begins tomorrow—Wednesday, September 5 and will continue on Thursday and Friday.  ALL STUDENTS IN 1ST AND 3RD GRADE WILL BE TAKING THIS TEST!—An Informational Flyer was sent home last Friday. 

Reminders: 

  • Make sure your child is rested and has eaten breakfast so they will be at their best! 
  • BE ON TIME:  —THE TEST STARTS AT 8:00 SHARP.—CHILDREN WHO ARE LATE TO SCHOOL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO INTERRUPT THE TEST AND WILL REPORT TO THE MEDIA CENTER UNTIL THE TEST IS OVER.—They will be required to take a make-up test at another time.

 Friday, Sept. 7—Grandparent’s Day—A purple invitation was sent home 2 weeks ago . ATTENDANCE IS BY RESERVATION ONLY and the deadline was last Friday. 

 Friday, Sept. 7—Pitner Night @ Kell High School Football Game 

 Monday, Sept. 24—Friday, Sept. 28—–FALL BREAK!—SCHOOL IS CLOSED ALL OF THAT WEEK!
