Meek's News & Notes

Everything you need to know to keep you informed

March 18-22, 2019 HELLO SPRING!!!

WE ARE IN THE LAST 9 ½ WEEKS OF SCHOOL FOR THIS YEAR!   LET’S CONTINUE TO WORK HARD TO BE READY FOR 2ND GRADE NEXT YEAR !

   DON’T FORGET!

  • STUDY AND LEARN TO SAY ALL 200 WORDS FROM YOUR COBB COUNTY 200 SIGHT WORD LIST BY SIGHT (in a snap!) —Your child should know all 200 words by the middle of May!

  • HAVE YOUR CHILD STUDY THEIR SPELLING WORDS EVERY NIGHT JUST LIKE OUR HOMEWORK SHEET SAYS ABOVE!—SOME STUDENTS ARE FORGETTING TO STUDY THEIR SPELLING WORDS EVERY NIGHT, AND ARE DOING VERY POORLY ON OUR WEEKLY SPELLING TESTS.— In order to become proficient spellers, students  need Spelling Practice every day!—I am now asking parents to SIGN the Homework Sheet every day to let me know  that you helped your child study their Spelling Words that night!—Many thanks in advance!

  • MATH FLASH CARDS ARE COMING HOME THIS WEEK—3s, 4s, and 5s!—Practice these at home every day until your child can give the answer to the addition facts they do not know  in a “snap”.—(FYI:  We already know the 0s, 1s, and 2s).  We will have a 2 minute timed test every day to see how many facts your child has mastered!—We will do the 6s and 7s next week, and then the 8s and 9s after Spring Break.—Then…, we will practice all of the facts together until the end of school.

THIS WEEK:

***SPELLING QUIZ ON FRIDAY!—-PARENTS REMEMBER TO SIGN THAT YOUR CHILD  STUDIED HIS/HER SPELLING WORDS EVERY WEEK NIGHT.

***Friday, March 22—REPORT CARDS FOR THE 3RD 9 WEEKS WILL BE SENT HOME IN FOLDERS.—PLEASE SIGN THE SIGNATURE ENVELOPE AND RETURN TO SCHOOL.—Do not seal the envelope!

LOOKING AHEAD:

NEXT Monday, March 25 is our Field Trip to Kennesaw National Battlefield Park.—We will hike up & down the mountain and have a picnic lunch afterwards.  Parent chaperones are welcomed to join us at the mountain, BUT no younger or older siblings are allowed.***LET ME KNOW BY THIS  THURSDAY, MARCH 21,  IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN US AS A CHAPERONE!—-STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR THEIR GREEN CLASS T-SHIRT ON THE FIELD TRIP AND COMFORTABLE PANTS AND TENNIS SHOES!

APRIL 1-5—–SPRING BREAK—NO SCHOOL ALL THAT WEEK!— STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, APRIL 8.

March 11-15, 2019 9 1/2 Weeks of School Left!—LET’S KEEP LEARNING!!!

PARENTS!—-SCHOOL IS NOT OUT FOR THE SUMMER YET!   WE STILL HAVE 9 AND ½ WEEKS LEFT OF SCHOOL AND THERE IS STILL MUCH LEARNING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!—PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD COMES TO SCHOOL UNLESS THEY ARE SICK.—WE HAVE MUCH MORE ADVANCED AND DIFFICULT MATH, READING, AND WRITING SKILLS TO BE LEARNED AND YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO BE HERE SO THEY WILL NOT GET BEHIND!—–Please help me help your child to get ready for 2nd grade next year!

******IMPORTANT!  SCHOOL STARTS EVERY DAY AT 7:45 a.m. & OUR MATH INSTRUCTION STARTS EVERY SINGLE DAY BY 8:00 a.m.

When your child is tardy and arrives late,  he or she has already missed the opportunity to get unpacked and settled in for the day.—MUCH MORE THAN THAT, HE/SHE HAS MISSED THE NECESSARY REVIEW NEEDED FOR OUR MATH LESSON THAT DAY AND THE INTRODUCTION OF THE MATH SKILL WE ARE LEARNING AND PRACTICING THAT DAY!—AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, WE ARE FOCUSED ON MORE DIFFICULT MATH SKILLS AND PROBLEM SOLVING STRATEGIES THAT REQUIRE A LOT OF TIME, PRACTICE, FOCUS, AND ATTENTION TO MASTER.—WHEN YOUR CHILD IS TARDY,  IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TRY TO “CATCH THEM UP” BECAUSE EACH DAY BUILDS UPON THE DAY BEFORE THAT.——- PLEASE, PLEASE BE SURE TO GIVE YOUR CHILD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PART IN THE ENTIRE DAILY LESSON BY GETTING THEM TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND BY BEING ON TIME!

Please know that I have your child’s best interests always in mind, and just like you and I, children cannot perform their best in school when they are rushed and already behind in the lesson because they have arrived late to school.   ALSO, PLEASE KNOW THAT I APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME THAT SO MANY OF YOU SPEND AT HOME TO HELP YOUR CHILD BE SUCCESSFUL AT SCHOOL.   PARENTING IS A TOUGH JOB AND I RESPECT THAT.  Just know that I can really see a difference in your child’s academic growth, when you are also spending quality Reading and Homework time at home with your child.                  Many, many thanks!    Ms. Meek
