International Day of Peace

Friday, September 21st

Next Friday, September 21 is the International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”).  Peace Day is observed around the world each year on September 21. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.  To celebrate this wonderful day, Kincaid staff and students are participating in several activities.

  • Teachers will be delivering lessons and activities to promote kindness and acceptance.
  • Students and staff are encouraged to wear “Peace” themed clothes to school. Break out your tye-dyes, headbands, bellbottoms etc. to celebrate peace at Kincaid and in our larger world.
  • Rausch will create “Pinwheels for Peace” with all students to display outside on the front lawn.  These pinwheels will be put out on the afternoon of September 20th. You and your student are welcome to view the display on the evening of September 20th or on September 21st.

Welcome Back to School 2018!

aug09_kids

aug09_welcome1

I am so glad that your child is in my class this year. I am looking forward to a wonderful first grade year with your child. Please remember in our classroom there is no paraprofessional support. First graders must quickly become independent with many of their responsibilities such as unpacking and packing up their book bags, putting away their lunch boxes, snacks etc. First graders feel so grown up now that they are no longer the youngest students at school.

Please make sure that you let me know how your child is going home the first week of school. Send in a note with your student. I cannot accept emails for transportation information regarding your child.

Wednesday your child will bring home a Cobb County Folder. There are several papers to read and complete in the folder. Please be sure to complete and return these as soon as possible.

During the first couple weeks of school, all students will need to bring in a pair of earbuds. I will label them with your student’s name when they bring them in. They will use these when we use the computers during Daily Five. Students will NOT share these with each other. You can find earbuds at the dollar store.

Our enrichment schedule will be on a six-day rotation this year. The Specials schedule for August is posted on the Kincaid website (http://www.cobbk12.org/Kincaid/). Remember that all students should wear sneakers on P.E. days. Our rotation schedule is:

  • Day 1–Math Lab
  • Day 2-STEM Lab
  • Day 3–P.E.
  • Day 4–P.E.
  • Day 5–Music
  • Day 6–Art

All school supplies are due to class this week. If you have not already done so, please send in school supplies as soon as you can so that we are prepared for learning.

We will have a short snack time every day around 9:30 am. Please send a healthy snack every day. Until we find out if we have students with severe nut allergies in our class, do not send any foods which contain peanuts, tree nuts, or peanut butter. It is very important to follow this rule for the safety of these children.

When your child is absent from school you have three days to send in a note about the absence. If a parent note or Doctor’s note is not received within 3 school days the absence will be recorded as an unexcused absence.
