Walton’s third annual Poetry Out Loud competition on Monday night was a great success. Over 40 spectators gathered to support nine competitors as they recited poems in two rounds of competition.
Selections ranged from Maya Angelou’s “Caged Bird” to Percy Shelley’s “Ozymandias,” and Walton’s own Senora Cox recited her beautiful poem “Ay, Granada!” for all to enjoy.
Special honors were bestowed upon the evening’s top three contestants, winner Chelisa Macharia (12th), runner-up Madeleine Deisen (11th), and third place contestant Lucy Wang (12th). Chelisa will advance to the North Georgia Regional Competition in February.
The media center staff would like to thank all of the teachers who gave up their valuable time to help pull the event together. We’d also like to congratulate all of the student participants on a job well-done.
