Unit 2: The Challenge of Utopia

Students have started reading the novel ‘Catching Fire’.

Also, students now have access to our Springboard textbook online.

All students have registered, have user names and have our class password.  Assignments will be available for online access. Unfortunately, not all students have computer technology at home, so most assignments will be given in class. We are excited to have this technology as a resource!

Thursday: (Assessments) Daily Oral Language Quiz and ‘Catching Fire’ Quiz #1
Thursay: Talent Show at 6:30pm in the Theater
Friday: Fresh Air Friday

Reading

This week students took the Reading Inventory for the 2nd time.

Red Ribbon Week is Oct 25th – Oct 31st:
Wed. – Team Up Against Drugs (favorite team shirt and school attire bottoms)
Thurs. – Crazy Socks
Fri. – Wear Red to Say No to Drugs (red top and school attire bottoms)
Mon. – Too Smart to Use Drugs (favorite college shirt and school attire bottoms)
Tues. – Drugs Are Scary ($2 dress down, costumes)

(Oct. 16- Oct. 20) Conference Week

  •  Conference Week – Early Release all Week
  •  This week, students are finishing up their Definition of a Hero Essays and typing the final drafts using the class laptop computers.

Reading

Student are continuing to read Code Talker- Chapters 21-23, and reviewing how to analyze text.

 

(Oct. 9- Oct. 13)

This week we will  be drafting and completing Embedded Assessment #2: Definition of a Hero Essay.  Students should be finished with the essays at the end of the week.
