East Side Foundation-Please Donate Today!

Dear Wise Guys,

East Side’s Foundation has begun its capital campaign for the school year.  If you haven’t inquired or donated yet, please consider doing so.

I am not trying to sell you on donating to something that doesn’t reach your family, child(ren), or child’s teacher, but rather list how your donations DO make a difference to those mentioned.  With the dedicated work of our Foundation Board and its members, the school has been able to upkeep and purchase playground equipment, an outdoor classroom, RAZ Kids subscriptions for all my students, and ipads to put into the hands of ALL students.  They have purchased materials for classrooms, the Maker Space, and even pay for us to have a teacher for our Specials slot.

As a teacher at East Side, the Foundation has paid for me to have STEM training, Reading and Writing Workshop trainings from Columbia College, and to have substitute teachers so that our whole grade level can collaborate 2 days out of the year.  The Foundation also allows the teachers to purchase items to be used in the classroom by students to enrich their learning beyond what the County can supply for the many classrooms throughout our large district.

Thanks to the help of both the PTA and our Foundation, our school is able to give such quality education to all of our students, stay up to date with technology, and be a well sought after school.

I know that the Foundation is requesting $75 per family and other schools around us generally ask around $125, but any and all amounts are appreciated.  No donation is too small.  Every dollar will be used to better your child’s school experience in some form or fashion.  When I thank the Foundation, this includes you too!  Without your financial support, the Foundation would not exist.  So Thank YOU!

Fire Safety Village

Wise Guys,

Just a friendly reminder to let you know that tomorrow, October 4, will be our field trip to the Cobb County Fire Safety Village.  Your child may purchase a sack lunch from school or bring a sack lunch from home (everything must be disposable.)  We will not be bringing anything back from the field trip other than an empty cooler.

We have permission slips for all students to go along.  I am just missing a couple of waivers for students to participate in the “smoke house” and climbing down a ladder into a foam pit.

We will be out of the building from 9:15-1:30 tomorrow.

Also, please make sure that your child comes to school wearing his/her gray class shirt for the field trip!

Sincerely,

Deborah Stephens

Welcome Back!

Wise Guys,

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun Fall Break.  I could not believe hot terribly hot the weather turned out to be this past week, but hope to find all students back to school safely tomorrow morning.

We have a busy month ahead of us with holidays, festivals, fall centers, field trips, STEM, new lessons, and more!  I will be sending October calendars and activities home tomorrow with the students, but please make sure you check our class blog for updated information on what’s happening in 2nd grade too.

Sincerely,

Deborah Stephens

Sign Up Genius

Dear Parents,

Emails have been sent out to parents of students with siblings at East Side.  The emails are for parents to choose a convenient time slot to conference with their child(ren)’s teacher(s).  I will be sending emails out to the rest of the class parents tomorrow for you to sign up for time slots.  Conference week will be from October 15-19.  Please let me know if you will be out of town or unable to attend this particular week so that we may make other arrangements.

I look forward to meeting with each of you soon.

Sincerely,

Deborah Stephens

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Dear Wise Guys,

Parent & Teacher conferences will be held during the month of October.  We have so many amazing families and cultures represented at our school.  I wanted to take a moment to offer to you the use of a translator (in your primary language) if you feel one is needed.  I have many things to share with you about your children and want the limited time we will have to be of great use to you and your family.  So, please let me know if you feel that you will need translator services for your upcoming conference.

Sincerely,

Deborah Stephens

Family Fun Night!

East Side’s Family Fun Night will be tomorrow night, 9-7-18.  Please consider joining in the fun.  It will be in the front of the school from 5-9 pm.  There will be live music, face painting, and food trucks for dinner choices.  Bring a blanket or sports chairs to sit, socialize, and enjoy the evening outside with new friends.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Also, if you see any of our Wise Guys and their families, please consider taking photos to add to our class Shutterfly account.  It is a great night for making memories.

Scholastic Book Orders

Wise Guys,

If you placed an August Scholastic book order with me, they have arrived.  I went through the orders and placed the items in your child’s cubby this afternoon.  They should be coming home with the purchases tomorrow.  Thanks for supporting our classroom library with your orders.

Sincerely,

Deborah Stephens
