February in the LLC

Holy Moly! February 2020 was a CRAZY busy month in the Durham Library Learning Commons! The Library led the charge of two really special reading events in February–World Read Aloud Day on February 5th and an early celebration of Read Across America in partnership with Frey Elementary. Check out details of those happenings on their respective blog posts below. Lots of valuable instruction took place in the LLC as well; Mrs. Baker taught alongside 6th Social Studies and 7th ELA teachers with concentration on research in Cobb Digital Library that culminated in student essays and projects. Mrs. Baker also led training for CCSD Library Media Paraprofessionals on this year’s newly adopted Sora platform and represented Georgia educators at PAGE Day at Capitol Hill during the February break. On display in celebration of Valentine’s was the annual Blind Date with a Book where students chose lovingly wrapped books based only on the briefest of descriptions, and then took a chance on falling in love–with the story. Lastly, Durham paid a fond farewell to Library Media Paraprofessional, Tracey Webb, after 10 years of service! Mrs. Webb and her husband have moved to Florida. Her imprint on Durham, and her tireless efforts in the Library, will be remembered for years to come. Good luck, Mrs. Webb. Durham loves you! Baton down the hatches, an exciting spring is on the horizon!
