Conference Week and Important Dates

I hope you all had a nice restful fall break. I shared with your students today that they were great motivation for my return today. Each one of them truly are treasures. We are quickly approaching parent teacher conference week. You will receive a letter from me tomorrow with a potential time and date for your conference. If the time or date does not work please feel free to provide some dates and times that may work. I will make every effort to accommodate schedules. I am also available for Skype conferences as well. I know it can be tricky taking off work, so if it is easier to Skype in on your lunch break I can make that work.

Fundraiser: The fall fundraiser kicked off today. A flyer went home please reference it for more information.

Student Teachers: We have two wonderful student teachers in our classroom until December of this year. They are wonderful additions to our classroom and I know that your children will provide a great learning experience for them. A flyer went home last week requesting permission for the student teachers to work with students. Please take a few minutes to review the information, sign, and return the form.

Weekly Update

Good afternoon parents!

We had another wonderful week in room 512! Students freshened up their skills related to place value. We learned about the cattle trails of the late 1800’s and the Black Cowboys who made the trails successful. In writing we discovered that we can learn about technique and voice by studying other writers. We also studied best practices and strategies for problem solving and responding to reading.

We are looking forward to a wonderful week next week where students will continue to practice the seven habits of healthy and happy students.

Looking ahead:

Math – We will continue to discuss place value and how the positions relate to one another for both whole and decimal numbers.

Reading/Writing- We will begin our study of the characteristics of narrative writing and reading. We will focus on analyzing characters and their traits in reading while focusing on building our understanding of narrative writing traits in writing.

Social Studies- We will finish our unit on the Cattle Trails and the Black Cowboys. We will take a mini-quiz over this material.

Aug. 23: Fall Pictures in Media Center

Aug. 27: PTSA Spirit Night at Panda Express

Aug. 29: WatchDog Pizza Night

Sept. 2: Labor Day Holiday

Fabulous First Week!

Greetings parents and students!

We had a wonderful first few days in class. We spent time getting to know one another and practicing rituals and routines. Your children are all wonderfully made, and it brought us joy to get to know more about each one of them. I can truly say that this was one of the best and brightest starts to a school year!

Students took their weekly communication folder home today. They will bring this home each week. We will include graded papers, permission slip forms, and other important documents in this folder. There will also be a weekly habits sheet that will need to be signed and returned on Monday’s. This will start next week. Finally, homework will be distributed in this folder each Friday beginning next Friday. Student must bring their Friday folder home each Friday ad return it on Monday.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
